Ever since the BMW X5 first arrived in 1999, it has been regarded as one of the more car-like SUVs to drive. This stems from BMW’s know-how on making cars that are engaging to drive, but also the fact that the X5 was given a monocoque construction when most SUVs were still built with the body on a separate frame. It set new standards for SUV handling at the turn of the century, with great dynamics and a punchy range of engines.
The third-generation model looks like an evolution of its immediate predecessor – no surprise, as it uses the same platform as the X5 Mk2 – but it does deliver more comfort and practicality than ever. Interior space has been increased for passengers.
