The difference between BASIC and SILVER & GOLD insurance
Every car we rent out is covered by compulsory third-party liability insurance — if you cause an accident, our insurer covers the damage to the other party. On top of that, every rental already includes BASIC insurance for the car itself, with a deductible (the amount you’d pay out of pocket) that depends on the vehicle class. We recommend upgrading to SILVER or GOLD, which reduce or remove that deductible for damage and theft.
SILVER and GOLD upgrades are available for rentals of 2 days or longer.
If you’re relying on insurance from a third party — for example, a credit card benefit or your own insurance policy — you’ll still need to pay CarLove directly for any damage first, then claim reimbursement from your own provider afterwards. A SILVER or GOLD upgrade reduces the deductible you’d need to cover in the meantime.
Not covered under any insurance tier: damage caused while the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs; intentional damage to the vehicle; or damage caused while the car was being driven by a third party (someone not listed as a driver on the rental agreement) with less than 2 years of driving experience — or less than 5 years for vehicles in the LUXURY category.
Deductible by vehicle class
This is the maximum amount you’re responsible for if the car is damaged or stolen. SILVER removes the damage deductible; GOLD removes both the damage and theft deductible.

- Tires — if a tire can’t be repaired, both tires on the same axle must be replaced (clause 9.2 of the General Terms and Conditions).
- Theft — the car keys and registration documents must stay with the renter at all times. This coverage doesn’t apply if the vehicle is stolen because the keys or documents were left inside the car or lost.
- Interior — heavy soiling that requires professional cleaning: from 1000 CZK. Burnt or otherwise damaged upholstery: from 5000 CZK.
- Fuel system — for example, refuelling with the wrong fuel type. On top of the cost of cleaning and repairing the fuel system, a fine of 15,000–20,000 CZK applies.
Important: every insurance case is assessed independently. For example, a scratch on the front bumper and a scratch on the rear bumper count as two separate insurance cases, not one.
