Parking in Prague
On-street parking is only allowed where the road is marked with a white dashed line. Nearby you’ll find a sign showing the days and hours paid parking applies, and the zone number — plus a parking machine (or a QR code / app option) to pay for your stay. Rates vary by location, generally somewhere between 20 and 80 CZK per hour depending on the zone and how central it is — always check the machine or sign for the exact current price.
Parking on a solid blue line, or anywhere without a white dashed line, is prohibited for non-residents — these spots are reserved for local permit holders.
Parking zones
Prague’s paid parking areas are colour-coded into three zone types:
Reserved for residents, local businesses and property owners with a long-term permit. Visitors generally can’t park here — don’t risk it, as unauthorised cars are commonly fined, clamped or towed.
Open to any visitor, but limited to a maximum of 2 hours. Paid Monday to Friday, typically 8:00–20:00 (check the sign for exact hours — some zones also apply on Saturdays). Long-term permits aren’t valid here.
Shared between residents and visitors. Anyone can park and pay for the time they need, usually without the 2-hour cap of the orange zone. Exact hours and conditions can vary by district, so check the local sign.
Paying for parking
- Older coin-operated machines. Insert the amount you need (the display shows the time this buys), then press the green “tisk lístku” (print ticket) button and place the ticket visibly behind your windscreen.
- Newer machines with card payment. Enter the machine or zone number, use the plus button to set your parking duration, choose your payment method (card or contactless), and again leave the printed ticket on your dashboard.
- Paying online or by app. Most zones can also be paid remotely — by SMS, through the city’s official parking portal, or via a parking app — without needing to find a machine at all.

Fines for unpaid or incorrect parking
Fines in Prague increased significantly from January 2026. For parking without payment or in the wrong zone, expect roughly 1,200 CZK if paid on the spot, 1,500 CZK if paid within 15 days, and around 2,000 CZK after that — with repeat offenders facing fines of up to 25,000 CZK.
On top of the fine, your car can also be clamped or towed to an impound lot, which comes with its own separate release fee.
