Český Krumlov by Car: UNESCO Old Town and Parking Guide

Český Krumlov is a compact historic town in South Bohemia, built around a 13th-century castle above a bend of the Vltava River. Its preserved medieval street plan and Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture earned the historic centre a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.

Why visit Český Krumlov?

The castle complex, tower views, riverside lanes and Renaissance façades fit naturally into a full-day trip. The official castle programme changes by season, so check current routes and opening times before travelling.

A short history of the town

The settlement developed around the medieval castle and later became an important seat of the Rožmberk and Schwarzenberg families. Renaissance and Baroque rebuilding shaped the castle and town while the historic street pattern remained unusually intact.

Arriving and parking

The historic centre is a pedestrian zone with special vehicle-entry rules. Drivers should follow local signs and use the official visitor car parks P1–P5 around the centre. The town’s official parking page lists access, capacity, charging and current payment information. If your accommodation lies inside the zone, ask it for arrival instructions in advance.

How to plan the day

Choosing a car for the trip

A compact car is convenient for parking, while an estate, SUV or van may suit a family or extra luggage. Review the rental conditions and contact CARLOVE before booking if you plan additional cross-border travel.
