If your itinerary includes mountain driving, Špindlerův Mlýn, Pec pod Sněžkou, or the Ore Mountains near the German border, genuine four-wheel drive makes a real difference in winter or on unpaved forest roads.
The Dacia Duster is the dedicated 4x4 in the fleet: real all-wheel drive, raised ground clearance, and a proven record on ski trips to the Czech mountains. The Hyundai Tucson MT brings the same model in manual transmission, for drivers who prefer to choose their own gears on mountain switchbacks.
Large SUVs — full-size comfort for longer journeys
When space and presence are the priority, group travel, business trips, or a multi-week itinerary across Central Europe, two models cover it.
The Škoda Kodiaq is a proper large family SUV, with a genuine 5+2 seating option, an enormous boot and the build quality Czech engineering is known for. The Volvo XC60 is in a different league for interior quality, with premium Scandinavian design and advanced safety technology that makes a Prague–Vienna drive feel comfortable rather than merely tolerable.
What actually moves the price

Five things worth knowing before you take an SUV out of Prague
The Kodiaq and Duster clear most Prague multi-storey car parks, but height barriers around the historic centre can be tight. Check the clearance before you commit to a specific garage.
Getting up a snowy mountain road is rarely the problem. Coming back down with confidence is where the Duster's AWD and higher ground clearance actually earn their keep.
