A rental car can look expensive when the headline rate is compared with a different vehicle, different dates or a package with different inclusions. There is no single reason for every price. The final amount depends on the car, timing, rental length, pickup arrangement, insurance choice, mileage and route.
What changes a rental-car price?
Travel dates and vehicle availability
Demand changes during holidays, summer weekends and major events. A popular category may have fewer available cars, while another class can offer better value. Compare the same dates and a genuinely suitable vehicle rather than the cheapest headline category.
Vehicle category and real space requirements
An economy car, estate, seven-seat vehicle and premium model have different purchase, servicing and operating costs. Choose by passenger count, luggage and route. A car that is too small can create a second problem at pickup; a car that is unnecessarily large can increase both rental and fuel costs.
Rental duration
