Why Car Rental Prices Feel Complicated: Deposits, Insurance and Fees
Two rental offers can show a similar daily rate and still produce different totals. The difference usually comes from insurance level, deposit, mileage allowance, delivery, driver requirements and costs outside the Czech Republic. Compare the complete booking, not only the first number.
Start with what every rental includes
CARLOVE currently includes BASIC insurance, the Czech motorway vignette, seasonal tyres, VAT, a child seat or booster on request, and 24/7 roadside assistance. These included items should be separated from optional upgrades and trip-specific costs.
Insurance and deposit are different decisions
BASIC insurance is included. SILVER and GOLD upgrades are available for eligible rentals and vehicle categories. A deposit-free option is available with GOLD, while some Luxury vehicles use a reduced deposit instead. CARLOVE may increase the deposit in individual cases. Read both the insurance exclusions and the deposit rule before choosing.
Mileage can change the final total
The included daily mileage depends on the vehicle class and is shown during booking. Extra distance is charged separately. Estimate your route before comparing offers, especially for long trips outside Prague.
Delivery and return are services, not hidden fees
Delivery to an address, airport service and out-of-hours handover have their own prices. Provide the exact location and time so the quote can include the correct service. A cheaper city pickup may be better value if it fits the itinerary.
Fuel and foreign road charges remain trip costs
Fuel is paid at cost. The Czech motorway vignette is included, but toll roads and vignettes outside the Czech Republic are paid separately. Tell CARLOVE every country on the route before booking.
Driver requirements affect which cars can be offered
The current minimum age is 21, with age 25 required for some Luxury vehicles. A category B licence with at least two years of driving experience and a passport or national ID are required. Visa or Mastercard is accepted for payment and deposit.
How to compare rental offers fairly
- Use the same vehicle class, dates and pickup hours.
- Compare the same insurance level and deposit.
- Check included mileage and estimated excess distance.
- Add delivery, airport or out-of-hours service.
- Include foreign tolls and fuel in the trip budget.
- Read exclusions and cancellation conditions before payment.
